So let me address the first reaction. I've always thought I'd be very objective when it comes to how cute or ugly my children would be. I mean who really cares as long as Jami and I love these children and raise them right. I don't want them to think that looks are that important anyway, and I definitely don't want to raise these girls thinking they are some beauty queens. My first reaction to these 32 week preemies were that they looked like Yoda from Star Wars OR they looked like grumpy 80 year old men. You pick. Now they are starting to fill out and they may have some cute features. But I'm skeptical of anyone saying my babies are SO cute. I think people are trying to be nice because there isn't anything else to say. How many times have YOU seen a baby that looks like it was born from a meat grinder and you are like, "Uh...cute...?" And what else do you say about a baby? "She's so precious"??? That equals your kid looks like a dog's crap in an alley on a steamy hot day in Chicago.
I try to be unbiased. Addy has some cute pictures, but Sid still looks like Yoda. Sid's baby personality makes her more "lively"...to be nice. We'll see in a few months and a few years. I hear they change so much. I love my children, but not blindly. I can't blindly say our children are SUPER cute, because of the second thing people usually say about them. See below.
(A Quick Aside - Babies naturally have this innocent, cute look to them. Almost all the babies in the NICU have cute tendencies. Baby M has this really cute blonde look to her. Baby I is just dang cute, with all her dark features, and then there are a bunch of other babies I try not to look at because we aren't supposed to. There is the donkey baby that cries like a dang donkey...NOT CUTE.)
The second reaction is what makes me so skeptical about the first reaction. Me and Cute don't go together. Many people ask why Jami married me because "I’m not what you would call an attractive man. I’m not smart or athletic…" (from the Waterboy). My theory is that she drank so much during college and her early 20s that she still has beer goggles on. Let's hope they don't wear off in the next 50 years. So how can you say my babies are cute and other people say they look like me?!? Anything looking like me can't be good. These girls definitely have Chung blood in them though. So I have to give up the gig of saying they aren't mine and trying to give them away.
The third reaction is pretty typical too. Jami and I expected these little turds to have turd colored hair...okay brown hair and brown eyes. And I know that babies that are born blonde sometimes go darker and that eye color changes. But I'm used to dark haired babies with dark haired eyes that don't change colors over 6 months. And most half breeds are brown hair and brown eyes. Nobody ever told me that if you pulled the turkey out of the oven an hour early it looks green until you finish cooking it....then it is brown.
So I'm mesmerized by the strawberry blonde hair, especially when the hair is clean and without puke and spit up. Check out the photo here:
I mean c'mon did anyone expect that color hair? Even the eyes are sorta grey, green, blue, brown, and even a bit yellow around their pupils. If you've ever stared at Jami's eyes...just outside her pupils is yellow. Then the rest is blue. Chances are that Addy & Sid will be a light brunette with brown eyes. But for now, it is a trip to see them with those dark grey eyes and reddish blonde hair.
FYI...Sid is 4 lbs 8 ounces and Addy is 4 lbs 13 ounces. Both girls can eat as much milk as they want now. Before they were limited, but now it is a milk buffett!

you are a funny person john...personally I think you may have a bit too much time on your hands at the moment. We'll see how you keep your blog going when they are both home. As for the hair and eyes...mine changed from blue to hazel to brown in the first year. Hair was really fuzzy peach colored and now I have auburn brown hair. I hope they stay that way...there is a half baby at church that has strawberry blond hair and he is tooo adorable (trying not to use the word cute). Good luck to you and Jami...I definately see Chung in them...they are sweet babies.
I, first would love to say thank you for letting me read this very entertaining blog. And second, as someone who spends a lot of quality time with the girls they are CUTE!!! Not just cute, SUPER CUTE! Even when they puke on themselves, which is hourly. Everyone will love these girls, just as I do. Nurse Amber
LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! that's some funny ass shit! you are cracking me up john chung! and the twinkies are friggin' adorable. i told jami that i'd be honest and tell her if i thought they were ugly. and then to be nice i told her that i just wouldn't say anything if i thought they were ugly. i wouldn't lie and say they were cute - i'd just keep my mouth shut. and lawd only knows that don't happen very much. besides when my sister shucked out my niece (also a half-breed), she was ass ugly (NO LIE), but she's totally beautiful now. so you can never tell what's gonna happen. but seriously - that turkey part almost made me want to piss myself. now go on last comic standing and audition for the show.
